Carol Ann Shoup

Carol Ann (Newman) “Mom-Mom” Shoup, 66, of Orangeville, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at her home.

Born Oct. 23, 1946, in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late Paul I. and Betty L. Myers Newman.

Carol was a graduate of Sullivan County High School, Class of 1964 and attended Penn State, Altoona Campus. She was previously employed at ILC where she met her husband of 45 years, James A. Shoup.

Carol was active in various church and community organizations. She was a member of Rohrsburg United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative council and taught Sunday school, and was a leader for the Jerseytown Starlette program. Carol was an avid Penn State and Eagles fan who also enjoyed trains and flying, obtaining her private pilot’s license before her driver’s license. Family was very important to Carol, especially her grandchildren. She loved actively supporting them in their sports, music and other pursuits.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Charles A. Shoup, of Orangeville; five daughters, Caroline A. (Brent) Herr, of Elizabethtown, Jamie A. (Ronnie) Earnest, Carrie A. (Shawn) Hauck, Julie A. (Gary) Young and Jessica A. Shoup, all of Orangeville; extended daughters, Ellen Koser, Tina Titman and Kathy Stackhouse; a brother, Franklin “Pete” Newman, of Lairdsville; a sister, Jan M. Newman, of Orangeville; a brother-in-law, David Gordner, of Muncy Valley; and 13 grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by a brother, Val Newman and a sister, Valerie Gordner.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Pastor Darwin C. Goshorn officiating. Burial followed in Rohrsburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
