Donald J. Reitz

Donald J. Reitz, 86, of 416 S. Washington St. Muncy, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at the Gatehouse, Williamsport.

Born January 11, 1927 in Northumberland, he was the son of the late Hubert Sr. and Elizabeth (Meiser) Reitz. On March 31, 1951, he married the former Alma S. Smith. Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Donald was a 1945 graduate of Northumberland High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during World War II. Donald was employed for 40 years by Sprout-Waldron as a cost accountant retiring in 1990, and was a member of the Sprout Quarter Century Club.

He was a member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Muncy and a lifetime member of the Edward J. Smith Post 3428 V.F.W., Muncy and the Clyde F. Mowrer American Legion Post 323, Watsontown.

Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Peggy Martin-Buck, of Picture Rocks and Patricia Grant, of Muncy; two grandchildren, Arthur Grant and Ashlee Roberts; and one great-grandson, Solomon Grant.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one brother, Hubert Reitz, Jr. as a child.

Friends were received from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Officiating was Rev. Jane O’Borski, pastor of Bethany United Methodist Church, Hughesville.

Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

The family provided the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to either the Gatehouse or Susquehanna Health Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center at Muncy Valley Hospital. Make check payable to Susquehanna Health Foundation, and mail either donation to 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Please indicate Gatehouse or Skilled Nursing.
