Ronald Kenneth Barto
Ronald Kenneth Barto, 69, of Hughesville, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Born July 10, 1944, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Donald L. and Hilda E. Kilgus Barto. He and his wife, the former Priscilla Forse, would have celebrated 45 years of marriage on Sept. 16, 2013.
Ron served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and as a Pennsylvania State Trooper, retiring in 1992 as Commissioner of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board for North Eastern Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hughesville, Pennsylvania State Troopers Association and National Fraternal Order of Police. He graduated from Lycoming College with a degree in physics.
Ron was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also a master carpenter and outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and sports, especially the Yankees and Steelers.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Jill R. (James) Knittel, of Rochester, N.Y.; two sons, Jeffrey Donald (Christine) Barto, of Sandy Hook, Conn., and Brian Ronald Barto, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Donna (Jack) Armstrong, of Harleysville; and seven grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Montoursville Cemetery, with Rev. Cinda J. Brucker officiating. Military honors were accorded by combined veteran organizations in addition to a Pennsylvania State Police honor guard.
