John S. Temple
John S. Temple, 83, of Hughesville, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at his home.
Born June 25, 1930, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Samuel and Clara Sherwood Temple. He and his wife, the former Beverly A. Brown, celebrated 60 years of marriage on April 17, 2013.
John attended the Muncy area schools and retired in 1992 from Textron-Lycoming, after having worked there for over 26 years. He was a former member of the Hughesville Fire Dept. and a former Wolf Township Supervisor.
John was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed doing electrical and plumbing work, as-well-as restoring and fixing tractors. He was especially fond of John Deere tractors and loved gardening.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Donna G. (Chuck) Lawver, of Hughesville; two sons, David A. (Blanche) Temple, of Picture Rocks and Douglas W. (Melissa) Temple, of Paxinos; a twin sister, Julia Meyer, of Muncy; a brother, Calvin Temple; three grandchildren, Craig Lawver, Mandy Kitzmiller and Keshia Temple; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Lucinda Thomas and four brothers, Brit, Milerd, Morris and Paul Temple.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
