Claire Lewis Persun
Claire Lewis Persun, 78, of Pennsdale, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at his home.
Born Oct. 15, 1935, in Pennsdale, he was a son of the late Reuben and Pauline Hessler Persun.
Claire attended a one room school house in Muncy through the eighth grade, with his mother as his teacher. He graduated from Muncy High School, Class of 1953 and would go on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958.
Affectionately known as “Mousey” by his friends, Claire was previously employed by the former A & P, Hughesville for 30 years and retired from Muncy Homes after having worked there for 14 years. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Pennsdale and was a member of the Muncy Valley Moose and social member of both the Muncy VFW and Muncy Legion.
Claire was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and maintaining his flowers and landscaping. He also enjoyed traveling and playing slot machines.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda K. Persun, of Collegeville; a sister, Eileen (Richard) Rhian, of Watsontown; two brothers, Harold (Eleanor) Persun, of Pennsdale and Charles (Janet) Persun, of Muncy; his companion of 13 years, Joanne Rogers, of Pennsdale; and his beloved cat, Mr. Purr Purr.
In addition to his parents, Claire was preceded in death by a brother, Max Persun and a sister-in-law, Shirley Persun.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water Street, Hughesville, with Rev. Rob Ransom officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
