Verna M. Strassner

Verna M. Strassner, 75, of Hughesville, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at home surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 28, 1938, in Pennsdale, a daughter of the late Larue and Beatrice (Johnson) Simmons. On June 28, 1957, she married F. Dale Strassner, who survives.

Verna was a member of the Picture Rocks Baptist Church, where she had been a deaconess and served on many church committees. She graduated from Hughesville High School, Class of 1956. She was a Girl Scout Leader during the 1970’s, taught Sunday School and over the years enjoyed playing bocce ball, cooking, western movies, reading and writing letters to friends and family.

In addition to her husband of 56 years, she is survived by three daughters, Kim A. (Ralph) Mecone, of Williamsport, Torie K. (Michael) Tempesco, of Montoursville and Lori L. (William) Tait, of Pottstown; three grandsons, Tristan Mecone, Keegan Tait and Brandon Tait; two great-granddaughters, Brianna and Natalie Mecone; step-grandson, David Mecone; a brother, Robert (Judy) Simmons, of Hughesville; two sisters, Norma Dutry, of Montoursville and Kathryn Stiger, of Hughesville.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Richard Simmons.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday Dec. 7, at the Picture Rocks Baptist Church, 50 Elm St., Picture Rocks. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. till the time of service.
