Doris B. Hicks

Doris B. Hicks, 92, of Picture Rocks, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit.

Born Sept, 22, 1921, in Picture Rocks, she was a daughter of the late Jacob L. and Ethel Bitler McClain. Her husband of 58 years, Arnold E. Hicks, preceded her in death on April 7, 1999.

Doris was a graduate of the former Picture Rocks High School, Class of 1939 and retired from the cafeteria staff at the George A. Ferrell Elementary School, Picture Rocks, after having worked there for over 18 years. She was a lifetime member of the Picture Rocks Baptist Church and a social member of the Picture Rocks Fire Company.

Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Hicks, Doris Jean Hicks and Roberta Phillips, all of Picture Rocks; a son, David (Patricia) Hicks, of Picture Rocks; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Hicks; a grandson, Brandon Phillips; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Hicks; and a sister, Cora Akers.

Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 30, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water Street, Hughesville, with Rev. Jerry Uppling officiating. Burial followed in Picture Rocks Cemetery. Friends called from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.
