Elizabeth C. Carey

Elizabeth C. Carey, 94, of 945 Fairground Rd., Lewisburg, died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Buffalo Valley Personal Care Center, Lewisburg.

Born November 17, 1919 in Elmira, NY, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Catherine M. (Nagle) Madigan. Her husband of 58 years, William J. Carey, Jr, preceded her in death February 3, 2002.

She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School in Elmira, NY. Elizabeth later attended Empire College, where she received a degree in Psychology.

Elizabeth worked as a Registered Nurse at a VA Medical Center for 15 years.

She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy.

In her spare time she enjoyed reading, walking and listening to music.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Christopher M. and Pamela Carey, of Trumansburg, NY, James K. and Annie Carey, of Saugerties, NY and Brian T. Carey, of Syracuse, NY; one daughter and son-in-law, Maureen Ann and Wayne Sain, of Alamo, TX; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Terrence S. Carey in 1947 and William J. Carey, III in 2012; one daughter, Elizabeth T. Carey in 1945; three brothers and four sisters.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13 at Sacred Heart Church, 41 S. Eighth St., Lewisburg. Officiating will be the Rev. Msgr. William Richardson.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Elmira, NY.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Church, 41 S. Eighth St., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
