Michael E. Daye

Michael E. Daye, 67, of Hughesville, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at his beloved hunting cabin in Laporte.

Born May 29, 1946, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Robert W. and Margaret E. Daye. He and his wife, the former Jane L. O’Connor, celebrated 48 years of marriage on Aug. 6, 2013.

Mike was a graduate of Hughesville High School, Class of 1964 and retired in 2008 from Andritz, Inc., Muncy, after having worked there for over 44 years. He was a member of Picture Rocks Baptist Church, the Picture Rocks Fire Department, where he served as fire chief from 1977 to 1989, and was the last charter member of the Creekside Rod & Gun Club.

Mike was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, woodworking and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Shawn M. (Bob) Reeder, of Muncy and Stacy L. (Joseph) Zales, of Montoursville; three sisters, Linda J. (Lou) Eberlin, of Picture Rocks, Charlene M. (Jeffrey) Matlack, of Elimsport, and Lynnlee S. Daye, of Picture Rocks; and three grandchildren, Stephanie L. Reeder, Derek M. Zales and Avery J. Zales.

Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. officiating. Burial was held at the convenience of the family. Friends called from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
