Maurice L. Reese
Maurice L. Reese, 96, formerly of Montgomery, passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, in the ManorCare Health Services-North at Williamsport. Born in Shrewburg, Sullivan County, on Friday, Nov. 23, 1917, he was the son of the late Clinton and Myrtle (Rider) Reese.
He was the widower of Dorothy (Keener) Reese who preceded him in death on July 24, 1993.
Maurice was a 1934 graduate of Muncy Creek High School. He honorably served during the Second World War with the U.S. Army in the European and African theatres. Maurice retired as a team leader with the former Arrolet at Montgomery. He and his wife were the owner’s of Reese’s New and Used Furniture Mart.
He enjoyed gardening and then giving the fruits of his labor to his neighbors and friends. Maurice enjoyed having and attending yard sales and enjoyed reading Louis Lamor novels. He was a life member of Edward J. Smith V.F.W. Post 3428 at Muncy.
His is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda K. and Robert Scott, Montgomery; three grandchildren, Shannon (Keith) Shreck, Tracy Felix, James (Lynn) Montague; and by five great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Maurice was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifton, Calvin and Cleon Reese and three sisters, Celia Birchart, Romaine Houseknecht and Isabele Waldron.
Friends called on Friday, Dec. 27 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy. Graveside services were conducted at the convenience of the family.
