Robert Arthur Crawford

Robert Arthur Crawford, of Mile Road, Tunkhannock, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, at home. Born on May 27, 1930 in Montgomery Pa., he was the son of the late Harry and Deva Weaver Crawford.

He was under the care of Commonwealth Hospice of Scranton and loving family.

Robert pursued his childhood dream of becoming a licensed pilot at Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville, Pa. instructed by his lifetime friend, Joe Neff of Ocala, Fla. He worked as a corporate pilot first for Dee and Morris Taylor at Altoona-Blair Airport in Martinsburg, Pa., and second for Northeastern Engineering in Clarks Summit, Pa. He was also employed by Hinsman and Waldmann in Hughesville, Pa., Whipple’s Lumber in Laceyville and, after retirement, Gay’s True Value in Tunkhannock.

Robert enjoyed turkey hunting and was a long-time member of the Circle J Hunting Club in Elimsport, Pa. Other hobbies included woodworking and music Chet Atkins style guitar. He was a passionate learner and was self-taught in accounting and finance.

Robert was preceded in death by sisters Florence Bastian and Gladys Crawford, and brothers Warren, Elmer, Charlie and Fordy (Forrest) Crawford.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine Miller Crawford; daughters Valerie Crawford Smith, and husband Kevin, and Carol Crawford Carroll, and husband John; grandchildren Richard and Catherine Smith and Meredith and Bryn Carroll as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring or early summer at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s name to the Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice of NEPA, 746 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, Pa. 18510.
