Marjorie M. Shaner
Marjorie M. Shaner, 92, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at her home.
Born Feb. 13, 1921, in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Beulah A. Rupert Day. Her husband of 59 years, Woodrow W. Shaner Sr., preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2001.
Marjorie retired in 1972 from the State Correctional Institute, Muncy. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed bowling, crocheting, word find puzzles, gardening and playing cards.
Surviving are three daughters, Evelyn R. (Don) Burkhart, of Hughesville, Harriet S. (Ronald) Miller, of Watsontown and Gladys M. Boyer, of Montgomery; a son, Woodrow W. (Carol) Shaner Jr. of Montoursville; a sister, Elsie Girton, of Sunbury; three brothers, Richard Day, of Muncy, Eugene Day, of Lakeland, Fla. and Charles Day, of York; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by eight brothers, Wilbur, Norman, Raymond, John, James, Larry, Donald and Thomas Day; five sisters, Alma Shaner, Alberta Seidel, Dorothy Day, Betty Buss and Sylvia Brady; and a son-in-law, Larry Boyer.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Cinda J. Brucker officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends called from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at the funeral home.
