Lois L. Swank

Lois L. Swank, 89, of Hughesville, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at her home.

Born June 15, 1924, in Nordmont, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Bowman and Jessie Edna Little Speary. Her husband of 63 years, George R. Swank, preceded her in death on July 20, 2007.

Lois was a member of the Point Bethel United Methodist Church and a charter member of the American Legion Post 601 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, shopping, gardening and above all, spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Judith A. (Donald) Babb, of Muncy; a son, Robert W. (Elaine) Swank, of Hughesville; a sister, Ruth Durkee, of Muncy Valley; six grandchildren, Deanne Swank, Suzette (Patrick McGinnley) Swank, Jeanette (Robert) Seeley, Denise (Gary) Eck, Diane (Timothy) Wood and Donald (Christi) Babb; 10 great-grandchildren, Harleyann Heitzman, Alex Heitzman, Aidan McGinnley, Anna Seeley, Liam Seeley, Ashley Rupert, Jacob Wood, Chelsey Wood, Blake Babb and Owen Babb; a great-great-grandson, Chase Birch; and a sister-in-law, Grace Speary, of Hughesville.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Louise Swank; a sister, Viola Burkholder; and two brothers, Bernard and Lewis Speary.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Pastor Craig Livermore officiating. Burial followed in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Nordmont. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
