John R. Rooker
John R. Rooker, 87, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 26, 1926, in Unityville, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Lena Stackhouse Rooker. He and his wife, the former Anna L. Hill, celebrated 63 years of marriage on Nov. 23, 2013.
John served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of the former Technical Institute, now Pennsylvania College of Technology, with an electrical degree and retired in 1989 from Springs, after having worked there for over 46 years.
John loved helping those in need and could fix nearly anything. He also enjoyed landscaping, gardening and NASCAR Racing.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Steven E. Rooker, of Baltimore, Md. and a sister, Maxine (George) Perritt, of Hughesville.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Roland and Larue Rooker and two sisters, Grace Buck and Betty Timan.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Arthur E. Gladfelter officiating. Burial followed in Lungerville Cemetery. Friends called from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
