Doris M. ‘Dottie’ Bigger

Doris M. “Dottie” Bigger, 79, of 422 Fairfield Church Road, Montoursville, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at The Gatehouse.

She was born in Penn Township on March 17, 1934, a daughter of DeLos and Mary Reese Phillips.

Dottie retired from the former Montour Auto Service Co. She was a 60 year member of Bethel United Methodist Church and its Bible study group, was an avid reader, loved her flower gardens, enjoyed square dancing and bird watching.

She was predeceased by her parents; a grandson, Nathan Hopkins; and a brother, Roy Phillips.

Doris is survived by her husband of 59 years, Claire E. Bigger; two sons, Michael C. (Laurie), of New Port Richey, Fla. and Mark E., of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, DeAnn C. Bigger, of Montoursville; two brothers, Ralph (Elaine) Phillips, of Lake City, Fla. and Larry (Peggy) Phillips, of Unityville; two sisters, Janet (Michael) Whitmoyer, of Hughesville and Jean (Rodney) Hopkins, of Unityville; and three granddaughters, Mackenzie Hopkins, Alexandra (Chris) Cabrera and Tarah Bigger.

The funeral service was held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Bethel United Methodist Church, corner of Montour and Spruce Street, Montoursville, with Rev. Richard M. Barner and Rev. John R. Shafer as officiates. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends called Friday evening at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, from 6 to 8 p.m.
