Albert B. “Al” Ryder

Albert B. “Al” Ryder, 86, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at The Gatehouse. He was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Moreland Township, Lycoming County, a son of the late Benjamin H. and Bessie E. (Allen) Ryder. Sept. 28, 1946, he married the late Mary Catherine Day, who died Nov. 18, 2006.

He was a member of the Hughesville Baptist Church. Al retired from Springs in Montgomery and through the years had worked at Lycoming Silica Sand, Kremser Brothers and other businesses in the Montoursville area. He enjoyed hunting small game and deer, spending time in the outdoors, his dogs, but his greatest joy were his grandsons.

He is survived by a daughter, Dale Marie (Paul) Farley, of New Oxford; two grandsons, Matthew (Tammy) Farley, Aspers and Phillip Farley, of New Oxford.

In addition to his parents and wife of 60 years, Al was preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie and Gordon Ryder and two sisters, Laura Love and Gertrude Nurse.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, by Rev. Thomas Brokaw. The interment will be in the Montoursville Cemetery.
