Glenna M. Montague

Glenna M. Montague, 96, of Muncy Valley, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit.

Born June 7, 1917, in Penn Township, Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Hazel Reese Barto. Her husband of 61 years, Jason A. “Frit” Montague, preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1996.

Glenna retired from the former Weldon’s Apparel after having worked there for over 40 years. She enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States and Canada. Glenna also loved baking and cooking and was well known for her famous sugar cookies and homemade noodles. However, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her family. Every Sunday they would gather at her home to visit and share together in those special memories of days gone by.

Surviving are three daughters, Alma Jean Snyder, of Muncy, Janet L. (Clarence) Lore, of Unityville, and Betty Ann (Harvey Jr.) Sullivan, of Hughesville; a sister, Elva Mae Worthington, of Hughesville; two brothers, Bruce (Betty) Barto and Clarence “Toots” (Arlene) Barto, both of Hughesville; 15 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, Glenna was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Houseknecht; a great-great-granddaughter, Abigale Fenstermacker; a son-in-law, Jesse Snyder; four brothers, Grant, Clayton, Donald and Monroe Barto; and a sister, Murl Fiester.

Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. GayAnn Gearhart officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
