Robert L. Martin

Robert L. Martin, 87, of Hughesville, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Born April 29, 1926, in Pennsdale, he was a son of the late Earl and Mae Fisher Martin. His wife of 53 years, the former Audrey P. Snyder, preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 1999.

Robert served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from Sylvania in 1987, after having worked there for over 30 years. He enjoyed camping and hunting.

Surviving are four sons, Ronald L. (Patty) Martin, of Redding, Calif., Roger W. (Jill) Martin, of Hughesville, Dean E. Martin, of Hughesville, and Dale L. (Barbara) Martin, of Hughesville; a brother, George (Helen) Martin of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by a brother, James Martin.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Cinda J. Brucker officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, with graveside military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends called from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
