Sheila Y. Merrill

Sheila Y. Merrill 83 of State College, formerly of Muncy, PA went home to be with, her Lord on March 15, 2014.

She was born on August 4, 1930 in Sodus Point, New York the daughter of the late Heber D Wolfe and Margaret B Snyder.

On February 2, 1950 she married Joseph A Merrill who preceded her in death on May 27, 1982.

She is survived by three Children, a son, Scott E. Merrill and wife Donna of State College. Two daughters, La’Na R Brown and husband Robert of McEwensville, PA and Kym Y Jackson-Turley and husband Chris of State College, Five grandchildren and eight Great-Grandchildren.

She is also survived by a sister Donna E Bixler of Turbotville and two brothers David B Wolfe of Watsontown, PA and Fred Wolfe and wife Cindy of San Antonio,TX. Along with her best friend and neighbor Jane Kunes of State College and her faithful companion, a domestic shorthair cat named Mr. Muggs.

In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a son, L/Cpl William F Merrill, USMC KIA 11/26/1969, a daughter Jill Ann Merrill and a Grandson Justin S Merrill.

She was a member of State College Chapter #388 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served in many offices including Worthy Matron. She also served as a Mother Advisor of State College Assembly #147 Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was a recipient of the Grand Cross of Color from Rainbow for her service.

She was a very helping person always tending to the needs of friends and family. For many years she cared for Hospice patients In the State College area, having been honored as Volunteer of the year in 1994 for Centre Home Care.

She was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary, State College American Legion Post #245

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Park Forest serving on Church Council and assisting with many fund raising events. In 2010 she accompanied the youth of her church on a mission to Mountain Top, Tennessee!

Friends will be received today at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801 on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Koch Funeral Home on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ronald C. Miller Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery

Contributions in her honor are requested to be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Youth Fund, 2221 North Oak Lane, State College.
