Francis M. Cooley
Francis M. Cooley, 97, of Pikes Peak Road, Allenwood, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2014.
Born Oct. 5, 1916, in Allenwood, he was the son of the late Gardner B. and Lillie Mae (Miller) Cooley. On Aug. 14, 1940, he was united in marriage to the former Clara E. Whidden who preceded him in death in 1996 following 55 years of marriage.
For 45 plus years, Francis owned and operated Cooley Furniture Refinishing and Repair.
Francis had served in the Navy during World War II where he served on convoy escort duties, submarine invasions, and hunt and destroy missions in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres.
He was a member of the former Spring Garden God’s Missionary Church in Allenwood and at the time of his passing was a member of God’s Missionary Church, New Columbia.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra L. Mashburn and husband Paul, of Lake View, Ala.; a son, Dale F. Cooley and wife Sharon, of Allenwood; a daughter-in-law, Darla M. Cooley, of Miffinburg; and four grandchildren, Nita (Norman) Harvey, of Claxton, Ga., Beth Ann Cooley, of Muncy, Brian (Roseanne) Cooley, of Grand Maris, Minn. and Jason (RaeAnn) Cooley of Muncy. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Christopher, Benjamin and Nicholas Harvey, of Claxton, Ga., Bridgett and Ian Cooley, of Grand Maris, Minn., and Jacob, Levi, and Elizabeth Cooley, of Muncy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Cooley and two sisters, Isabelle Cooley and Lois Gakle.
Friends were invited to call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown, where the funeral was held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John White, retired God’s Missionary Church pastor, officiating.
Francis was laid to rest privately in the Elimsport Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.
