Gordon C. Motter, 89, of Montoursville, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 27th, 2014 at The Gatehouse. ?Born on Valentines Day, 1925, in Montgomery, PA, he was the son of the late John N and Sarah (Moore) Motter. ?He graduated from Muncy High School in 1942 and sold groceries for Weis Pure Food Stores until his induction into the U.S. Army in March of 1943. He lived under combat conditions as a machine gunner attached to Battery B, 886th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion, seeing ground combat in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe and awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was also a member of the US Army Reserves from 1947 through 1950. ?He worked as a skilled machinist for 40 years in the same building, retiring from Sprout Bauer in 1996. ?He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Montoursville. ?Gordon was an athlete his entire life. He played multiple varsity sports in high school. As an adult, he enjoyed playing competitive softball, basketball and bowling. His passion was bowling which he enjoyed for 60 years and at age 75 bowled 300 and 299 games. Through his 89th year he attended the YMCA and Silver Sneakers. ?He is survived by his first wife Norma J Dingler; 2 sons, Gordon L Motter, Pittsburgh, Bill Pepperman (Minerva) of Ohio; daughter in law Yong Davidson; 5 grand children, Steve Wheeland, Tom Pepperman, Justin Molina, Ali Pepperman and Logan Thomas. Two great grandchildren, Ella Marie and Emery June. ?Gordon is preceded in death by his best friend and companion of 36 years, Nancy J Pepperman; and his sisters Betty Shaner and Margaret Clayton. ?Relatives and friends were invited to Gordons Life Celebration service on Friday, April 4th, 2014 at the James C Maneval Funeral Home, LTD “A Life Celebration Home” 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, PA. A visitation was held at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service following at 11:00. ?In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to The Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd, Williamsport, PA.
