Barry L. Newman

Barry L. Newman, 67, of Watsontown, formerly of Hughesville, died April 13, 2014, at his home. He was born Aug. 11, 1946, in Laporte, a son of the late Herman L. and Kathryn L. Moyer Newman. Sept. 25, 1971, he married the late Patsy Ann Boyer who died Feb. 25, 2008.

Barry was a truck loader at the former Anton Waldmann Manufacturing for over 25 years. He graduated from Sullivan County High School and served honorably in the U.S. Army. He loved gardening and collecting toy trucks and tractors.

Barry is survived by a son, Bobby (Crystal) Newman, of Watsontown; three grandchildren, Hali, Kenny and Katie Newman, all of Watsontown; five brothers, G. Richard (Kathryn) Newman, of Epworth, Ga., Robert (Carol) Newman, of Hughesville, Wayne Newman, of Muncy Valley, Joseph (Linda) Newman, of Muncy Valley and Jeffrey (Melissa) Newman, of Danville; three sisters, Sandra (Donald) Schmidt, of Hughesville, Betsy Faus, of Muncy Valley and Deborah (Mark) Robbins, of Muncy; and a special friend that was “just like a brother,” Franklin “Pete” Newman, of Lairdsville.

Barry was preceded in death by a daughter, Marty Jo Newman.

Friends were invited to the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday to pay their respects.
