Albert B. Houseknecht

Albert B. Houseknecht, 94, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at his home.

Born April 5, 1920, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Wilbur B. and Florence N. Shook Houseknecht. His wife of 67 years, the former Florence I. Whitmoyer, preceded him in death on March 17, 2014.

Albert served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star. He retired in 1982 from the former Schnadig Company, Montoursville, after having worked there for 36 years.

Albert was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Clarkstown, the American Legion Post 268, Muncy and the Muncy VFW. He was an avid bowler who also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, crafts, caning chairs and traveling.

Surviving, are two daughters, Beverly J. Houseknecht and Doris L. (George) Frantz, both of Hughesville; a son, Wayne T. (Debbie) Houseknecht, of Muncy; a sister, Ada Bower, of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Cherish Wetzel, Stephanie White, and Tracie Frantz; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Walton.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2041 Route 442 Highway, Muncy, with Rev. Beverly D. Cotner officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
