Walter E. Wert

Walter E. Wert, 80, of Muncy, passed peacefully at home April 21, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He is the husband of Joan E. (LaPalme) Wert, whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Walt was born in Lock Haven on July 26, 1933, the son of Clair M. and Pearl E. (Wells) Wert.

He was an Air Force veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Williamsport Regional Airport where he was an air traffic controller for 36 years. After retirement he worked at the airport in the Maintenance Department until July 2013. A member of the Church of Our Saviour, Montoursville, he served on the vestry and as a “soup maker” during the Lenten soup sales. From 1974-1977 he served as a board member for the Montoursville Area School District. He is a 1951 graduate of Lock Haven High School, and a former member of the Muncy American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, David C. (Patricia), of Fairfax, Va.; Rodney P. (Jill), of Alexandria, Va.; three daughters, Christina E. King, of Muncy, Cynthia E. Butler (James), of Tennessee, Carolyn E. Murphy (Andrew), of Rochester, N.Y.; one brother, Robert C. (Cynthia), of Berwick; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Walt was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Jeri L (Wert) Hawkes; a son, Kenneth E. Wert; and grandson, Brent A. Neal.

In keeping with the wishes of Walt, there will be no public services held. A private burial will take place in the Memorial Garden at the Church of Our Savior at the convenience of the family.
