Harry R. Thompson
Harry R. Thompson, 76, of Picture Rocks, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Sycamore Manor.
Born June 7, 1937, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Wilce R. and Verna E. Sites Thompson. He and his wife, the former Gail M. Higgins, celebrated 40 years of marriage on Feb. 15, 2014.
Harry served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was employed at Sycamore Manor for over 17 years and served as the former mayor of Picture Rocks Borough. Harry was a former member of the Picture Rocks Lions Club, Picture Rocks Fire Department, where he served as fire police captain for many years, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Brenda M. (Wayne) Richart, of Picture Rocks; five sons, Dale R. (Joni) Thompson, of Florida, Clyde D. Thompson, of Hughesville, Mark A. Thompson, of Hughesville, Steven M. (Jennifer) Thompson, of Muncy and David A. (Angel) Thompson, of Picture Rocks; seven grandchildren, Michael Richart, Savannah Thompson, Hayley Thompson, Hope Thompson, Clyde Thompson Jr., Rebekah Thompson and Emily Thompson; a stepgranddaughter, Amber Prentiss; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Elwood Thompson, of Noxen.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by two grandsons, Brent M. and Brett A. Richart; and a stepgrandson, Robert L. Prentiss.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Max L. Walters Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Picture Rocks Cemetery with graveside military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
