Carl W. Miller
Carl W. Miller, 91, of Picture Rocks, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit.
Born November 25, 1922, in Unityville, he was a son of the late Harry O. and Ruth Houseknecht Miller.
His wife of 60 years, the former Margaret E. Laurenson, preceded him in death on Oct 17, 2013.
Carl was a graduate of the Hughesville High School, Class of 1942, and a graduate of the former Williamsport Technical Institute, Class of 1948.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II, and retired from the former Lyco Truck Sales and Service, Montoursville, where he had worked for more than 20 years. In 1987 he retired from the former Fairfield Chevrolet, Muncy.
Carl served as park custodian for Van Rensselaer Park, Picture Rocks, for many years and enjoyed hunting and small engine repairs. He was a member of the Picture Rocks United Methodist Church and a former member of the Odd Fellows.
Surviving are a daughter, Lucinda “Cindy” Lohmann, of Sweet Valley; four sons, Jeffrey C. (Carol) Miller, of Muncy, Michael D. Miller, of Frederick, Md., Daniel W. (Debra) Miller, of Hughesville, and Terry L. (Jo) Miller, of Picture Rocks; a sister, Arlene O’Conner, of Rutland, Vt.; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Miller and Lawrence “Sonny” Miller; a sister, Dorothy Swisher; and a son-in-law, John Lohmann.
A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the Picture Rocks United Methodist Church, 48 Laurel Run Road, Picture Rocks, with Pastor Richard L. DeMarte and Joani Yagel, co-officiating.
Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, with graveside military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends called from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.
