Larry B. Starr

Larry B. Starr, 82, of Elimsport, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born in Elimsport on Feb. 23, 1932, and was the son of the late Lewis A. and Elsie (Haag) Starr.

Larry served his country in the U.S. Army from Nov. 3, 1954, until he was honorably discharged on Sept. 18, 1956.

Larry married the former Ethel M. Shiffer, who survives, on June 29, 1958, and they would have celebrated 56 years of marriage together this year.

He worked for Philco Ford for almost 30 years, PA State Road Crew, Danville Cabinet and then John’s Savoy.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 182 of Lewisburg, the Eagles Club of Milton, a lifetime member of the Moose Club of Milton and the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department. Larry enjoyed gardening, taking walks, camping and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Ethel, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Frank J. and Ingrid Starr, of Germany; two daughters, Cindy L. Beachel and her companion, Ernest Day, of New Columbia and Lori A. Spaid and her companion, Carl Farley, of Mifflinburg; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Zora Unangst, of Lewisburg.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by one son, Larry B. Starr Jr.; five brothers; and two sisters.

A public viewing was held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton PA 17847. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at Elimsport Cemetery with Pastor Michael Hill officiating.
