Carlene E. Hess-Kahler

Carlene E. Hess-Kahler, 86, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Born May 5, 1928, in Hughesville, she was a daughter of the late Raymond C. and Esther M. Burkhart Gray.

Carlene was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 35 Ladies Auxiliary, the Eastern Star and the former Hughesville BPW. She enjoyed playing golf, shopping, gardening, lunches with her girlfriends and above all, spending time with her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan D. (James) Murray, of Hughesville; two sons, Steven D. (Marcia) Hess and Thomas D. (Jean) Hess, both of Hughesville; six grandchildren, Larran Styron, Meagan Murray, Lindsey Barnes, Casey Hess, Benjamin Hess and Abigail Hess; and four great-grandchildren, Graden Gardner, Finn Styron, Lundy Styron and Landon Barnes.

In addition to her parents, Carlene was preceded in death by her first husband of 42 years, C. Max Hess; her second husband of 10 years, Donald K. Kahler; three brothers, Eugene, Donald and Charles Gray; and a sister, Shirley Shaner.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, at Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Jane L. O’Borski and the Rev. Arthur E. Gladfelter officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

The family provided the flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main St., Hughesville, PA 17737 or the Lycoming County Fair Association, 1 Park St., Hughesville, PA 17737.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville.
