Leona Louise McCormick

Leona Louise McCormick, 87, a resident of Elimsport, went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 20, 2014, at her residence. Born in Kellysburg, Lycoming County, on Friday, Aug. 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alpheaus and Chrisie Viola (Maley) Hakes.

Leona was the wife of Keith E. McCormick with whom she celebrated a 67th wedding anniversary on Jan. 27, 2014.

She was a 1945 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School. Leona was employed as the Washington Township tax collector for 22 years.

Leona was a member of the Elimsport United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Christian Crusaders Sunday School Class. She enjoyed camping, traveling and jigsaw puzzles. Leona was happiest when she was with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Donna J. and husband Tom Taylor, of Elimsport and Dennis G. and wife Kathy McCormick, of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Tara and husband, Michael Bartlett, of Montgomery, Keith Taylor, of Elimsport, Kimberly and Carrie McCormick, Roanoke, Va., Kyle McCormick, of Roanoke, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Brein and husband Brandon Behrer, of Port Matilda and Corrin Bartlett, of Montgomery; and two great-great-grandchildren, Conner Behrer and Brooke Behrer. Leona was preceded in death by six brothers, Howard, Authur, Donald, Clarance, Carl and Earl Hakes and by four sisters, Frances Fortner, Alice Shaffer, Viola Younkin and Eleanor Hill.

A celebration of her life will be held today at the Elimsport United Methodist Church, 16145 State Route 44 Highway, Elimsport at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, with Michael Hill, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Elimsport Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Elimsport United Methodist Church, 433 Gap Road, Allenwood, PA 17810.
