E. Elaine Porch

E. Elaine Porch, 84, a resident of Picture Rocks, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Muncy Valley Hospital. Born in Johnstown, Cambria County, on Monday, May 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Grafton F. and Opal (Miller) Porch.

She was a 1948 graduate of Johnstown High School as well as a graduate of Kent State University in Ohio. She worked as a director of two Girl Scout camps. Returning to school she earned a graduate degree in social work. She was a social worker at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

In 1979 she moved to Williamsport to be near her family. Among other places, she worked at Williamsport Hospital, Lycoming-Clinton Head Start and Kramm Healthcare in Milton.

Elaine was a gentle, caring person who enjoyed being with family and friends. She was fond of dogs and cats and was concerned about their welfare.

In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her only sister, Patricia Meigs Bell. Surviving family are a niece, Christina Davis, of Columbia; nephews, William Meigs of Ranburne, Ala. and James Meigs, of Red Lion; as well as three great-nieces and a great-nephew.

The funeral service was at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Church of the Resurrection in Muncy, officiated by the Reverend Glenn McCreary. There was a visitation at the church on Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Brunch was served following the funeral. Inurnment was at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014 in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery at Benton. The flowers were provided by the family.
