Phyllis J. Houtz

Phyllis J. Houtz, 81, of Montgomery, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at her home.

Born Sept. 2, 1932, in Brady Township, Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late Otto W. and Alice M. Sharrow Bower. She and her husband, Glenwood Houtz, celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 11, 2014.

Phyllis was a graduate of Montgomery Area Schools, Class of 1950 and retired in 1997 from Clinton Township as the zoning enforcement officer. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Laureate Zeta Gamma Chapter, Montgomery and the St. John Lutheran Church, Montgomery, where she served on church council, as church secretary and on the service committee. Phyllis enjoyed painting, crafts and flower gardening.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Glenn D. (Tina) Houtz, of Montgomery and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys M. Bartlett.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, with the Rev. Viking Dietrich officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery, Montgomery. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
