Esther M. Hill

Esther M. Hill, 85, of Lairdsville, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at her home.

Born June 23, 1929, in Lairdsville, she was a daughter of the late Calvin E. and Mary P. Ritter Myers. Her husband of 58 years, Dennis M. Hill Sr., preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 2005.

Esther attended the Hughesville High School and served as Franklin Township Tax Collector for over 30 years. She was secretary of the Lairdsville Cemetery Association for many years, a former member of the Lairdsville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered as a Cub Scout den mother. Esther was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Church of Lairdsville and enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are three daughters, Hope Denise Adams, of Lairdsville, Isabelle (Ronald) Sweet, of Hughesville, and Peggy (Irvin) Wilson, of Mildred; four sons, Dennis (Deborah) Hill Jr., of Mildred, Michael (Ann) Hill, of Muncy, Andrew (Gwen) Hill, of Muncy, and Robert (fiancee Lovetta) Hill, of Lairdsville; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Catherine Hill; a brother, James Myers; and two sisters, Pauline Houseknecht and Catherine Minier.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Paul Shaner officiating. Burial followed in Lairdsville Cemetery. Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family provided the flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association at or St. Mark’s Church of Lairdsville, 6456 Route 118 Highway, Lairdsville, PA 17742.
