Franklin M. Woodside

Franklin M. Woodside, 87, a resident of Muncy, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, in the Susquehanna Health Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Unit at Muncy Valley Hospital. Born in Muncy, Lycoming County, on Sunday, Jan. 30, 1927, he was the son of the late Oakland G. and Helen E. (Merrill) Woodside.

Frank was the widower of Helen A. (Heivly) Woodside who preceded him in death on June 13, 2008.

He was a 1945 graduate of Muncy High School. Frank honorably served during the Second World War as a Seaman 1st Class with the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Core.

He was employed as a machinist by Sprout-Waldron at Muncy, retiring in 1978.

Frank was a member of the Grace Baptist Church at Muncy. He was a member of Edward J. Smith V.F.W. Post 3428 at Muncy. From go carts to antique cars Frank was a car enthusiast. His passion was attending antique car shows where he had won over 80 trophies. Frank enjoyed hunting and was an avid Penn State football fan.

He is survived by three children, Janet and husband Mike Shoemaker, of Muncy, Freda and husband Craig Zeiber, of Montgomery, John Woodside and partner Jeffrey Waters, of State College; two grandchildren, Ren and husband Darren Empie, of Muncy, Aaron and wife Tammy Yagel, of Williamsport; six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon Empie, Kayla, Krystina, Logan and Ashton Yagel.

Funeral services were conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy at 12 Noon on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, with the Rev. Charles Teffeteller, his pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Muncy Cemetery. Friends called on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside military honors were accorded by the joint veterans organizations.
