Edward H. Burgett

Edward H. Burgett, 72, of Muncy, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at his home.

Born July 10, 1942, in Muncy, he was a son of the late Donald J. and Elizabeth Rife Burgett. He and his wife, the former Anita Kay Rupert, celebrated 52 years of marriage on July 6, 2014.

Ed was a graduate of Hughesville High School, Class of 1959. He retired in 2000 from the PPL Montour Power Plant, where he worked as a utility man yard for 32 years. Ed was an active member of the Moreland Community Church and held various positions, including, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, president and secretary of church council and president of the cemetery association.

An active Mason, Ed formerly served as chaplain of Muncy Lodge 299 F. & A. M. for three years; as Grand Tall Cedar of Susquehanna Forest 199 Tall Cedars of Lebanon in 2008 and was nominated to the credentials committee at the annual convention in Wildwood, New Jersey; and was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Williamsport.

Ed was a member of Gideon’s International and served as secretary for two years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, John Deere tractors, and above all, spending time with his family.

In 1999 Ed was the grateful recipient of a liver transplant. Realizing the importance of that gift, he would always encourage others to be organ donors and help save lives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Jennifer A. (James) Engel,of Williamsport; a son, Gregory H. (Barbara) Burgett,of Elliottsburg; two sisters, Anna Berdean (Rex) Smith, of Horse Heads, N.Y., and Donallee B. Brown, of Unityville; two brothers, Leon J. Burgett and David M. (Jackie) Burgett, both of Muncy; a brother-in-law, Steve Feigles, of Muncy; five grandchildren, Jessica Burgett, Timothy Burgett, Rachel Burgett, Wesley Engel and Adelia Engel; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Anthony.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Dawn L. Feigles.

Funeral services were held 11a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Moreland Community Church, 1300 Church Drive, Muncy, with Pastor Harry Harter officiating. Burial followed in the Moreland Lutheran Cemetery. Friends called from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.
