Doris L. Harriman

Doris L. Harriman, 92, of Laporte, and formerly of Hughesville, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at The Green Home, in Wellsboro.

Born Aug. 25, 1922, in Sonestown, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth Kitzmiller Stackhouse. Her husband of 18 years, Percy L. Harriman, preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1964.

Doris was a woman of great faith and realized the importance of giving back to her community through her volunteering efforts. During her years in Hughesville, Doris was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and served as Jr. Choir director and organist. She was also a member of the women’s society and a Sr. Choir member. After moving to Laporte, Doris became active in the Laporte Women’s Club, Dushore Music Club and attended the Laporte United Methodist Church.

Doris retired from Muncy Valley Hospital, after having worked there for over 20 years. She enjoyed her flowers, spending time outdoors, playing bocce ball, canasta and spending time with her family.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy (William) Harriman-Carlson, of Painted Post, N.Y., and Jane Rhone, of Laporte; a sister, JoAnn Thomas, of Hughesville; a grandson John Carlson; two stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by a son, John Harriman and a sister, Jean Margolis.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main St., Hughesville, with Pastor Jane L. O’Borski and the Rev. Arthur E. Gladfelter co-officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
