Melvin Ellis Wentzel Sr.
Melvin Ellis Wentzel Sr., of Montgomery, passed peacefully on April 22, 2014. He was born in Williamsport, on June 10, 1939, son of Earl and Rose Wentzel.
He was a graduate of Montoursville School. He served in the U.S. Navy Aviation Maintenance Admin. and was most proud of his time served in the Operations Department – Flight Support Division Crash/Fire Branch, where he was recognized as Man of the Month and awarded a good conduct medal, in Jacksonville, FL.
After leaving the Navy he returned to PA, retiring, from AVCO Lycoming, while proudly serving as a union steward. Mel enjoyed carpentry, hunting, politics, and was especially fond of animals.
He is survived by his brother, Edward Wentzel, of Mechanicsburg; his daughter, Kathy Wentzel, of AZ; and her children, Connor Lussow, Cassidy Lussow, and Christian Lussow, all of AZ; stepson and daughter-in-law, Mark and Margaret Lockcuff and children and grandchildren, of Montgomery; stepdaughter, Cindy Cerrone, of Montgomery; and her daughter Miranda Cerrone, of N.J. Also surviving are his loving neighbors and friends.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Rose Wentzel, of Montoursville; his wife, Beverly Wentzel, of Montgomery; and his son, Melvin Wentzel Jr., of AZ.
Private memorial service was held at the convenience of the family.
