Katharine Louise “Lou” Little
Katharine Louise “Lou” Little, 84, of Picture Rocks, died Oct. 6, 2014, at her home. She was born May 14, 1930, in Harrisburg, a daughter of the late Samuel and Clara Liesmann Blumenstein. In 1953, she married Charles Daniel Little who died in 1973.
She was an life-long active member of Picture Rocks United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, served as a greeter, helped on the auditing committee and was very active through the Fellowship Class providing meals at the church and many other tasks.
She graduated from William Penn High School, Harrisburg, Class of 1947. She then attended Goucher College, Maryland, Class of 1953, with a degree in elementary education. She served as an elementary school teacher in the East Lycoming School District, serving at the George A. Ferrell, Renn and Ashkar Elementary Schools until her retirement in 1995. During her time at Ashkar, she established the Transition Class.
Lou was known for her knitting of sweaters and baby caps, knitting over 1000 of each for the Guidepost Sweater Project, the Pregnancy Care Center and later in life the Family Practice Center, Hughesville. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, flowers and her many Irish Setter dogs. Lou had served as Judge of Elections for Picture Rocks for many years, a Cub Scout Den Mother during the 1960’s and as the Little Family Reunion treasurer for many years.
Lou is survived by two sons, Daniel “Bruce” Little, of Picture Rocks and John C. (Ziva) Little, of Hummelstown and three grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew and Sarah Little, all of Hummelstown.
In addition to her husband, Lou was preceded in death by a son, William David Little; a daughter, Jeanne L. Little; and a close cousin, Katharine Fetter.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Picture Rocks United Methodist Church by Lay Pastor Joani Yagel. The interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family received friends in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the “Fellowship Class” of Picture Rocks United Methodist Church, Laurel St., Picture Rocks, PA 17762.
