Leona C. Ritter

Leona C. Ritter, 98, formerly of Muncy, passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, in the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village at Lewisburg. Born in Muncy, Lycoming County, on Monday, March 27, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Millie (Guyer) Confer. Leona was the widow of Sylvester C. Ritter who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1957.

Earlier in life Leona was employed as a telegram operator and was later employed by the former Paul’s Department Store at Muncy and the former Montgomery Mills.

She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Turbotville where she was a member of the Jolly Bunch. She enjoyed reading and going out to eat. For nine years she and her son spent their winters in Florida and summers in Pennsylvania.

She is survived by one son, Garry L. Ritter, of Muncy; two daughters, Donna R. and husband Burrows Boston, of Williamsport; Judith R. and husband Richard Schenck, of Mifflinburg; three grandchildren, Douglas A. Schenck, of Martinsburg, W. Va., Deanna French, of Lancaster, Eric P. Schenck, of Evans City. Leona is also survived by five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Leona was preceded in death by her sister, Elma I. Confer; brother, Paul Confer; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 39 Paradise St., Turbotville, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, with Rev. Erwin Roux, her pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Muncy Cemetery. Friends called on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
