Elizabeth Nancy (Hoppe) Chirdon

Oct 28, 2014

Elizabeth Nancy (Hoppe) Chirdon, 55, of Hughesville, was called home to God on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Born April 27, 1959, in Oak Park, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Phylis Jean (Weston) Hoppe and William Henry Hoppe, who survives. Beth lived in Germany, Italy and France as an Army brat and attended public high school in Flat River, Missouri. On Nov. 27, 1983, she married SSG Danny Ray Chirdon, of Muncy, and they continued to travel, moving to Fort Knox, Ky., Fort Belvoir, Va., Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Germany and Panama.

Beth worked in the healthcare field and has called Hughesville home for the last 32 years.

She attended the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy. Beth was a long-time member of the Roland Ritter Post 268 American Legion Auxiliary and the Edward J. Smith Post 3428 V.F.W. Auxiliary, both of Muncy. In 1993, Beth received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the United States Army Southern Command. She was also a volunteer Girl Scout Leader in Kentucky, Virginia and Germany.

Beth’s quirky humor and unconventionalities were only equaled by her love and compassion. She enjoyed baking, knitting and quilting. Most of all, Beth loved spending time with her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband, of Hughesville, and father, of Missouri, are a son, Shannon Hoppe, of Illinois; a brother and sister-in-law, William C. “Chuck” and Deanna Hoppe, of Maryland; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Catheryn Hoppe, of Missouri and Rebecca and Larry Beisel, of Virginia; a mother-in-law, Jean Maust, of Muncy; a brother-in-law, Vincent Chirdon, of Hughesville; two nieces, Ashley Letsche and her husband, Ryan and Kaitlyn Beisel; three nephews, William W. Beisel and his wife, Ashley, Sean Hoppe and Christopher Hoppe; and one great-nephew, Jonathan Patrick “JP” Hoppe.

In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her father-in-law, Leonard Chirdon; and many friends.

Friends were received from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a funeral was held at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Glenn McCreary, pastor of the Church of the Resurrection, officiating.

Burial followed in Muncy Cemetery.

The family provided the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the S.P.C.A., 2805 Reach Rd., Williamsport, PA 17701 or your local ASPCA.
