Martha Jean Houseknecht

Martha Jean Houseknecht, 96, of Hughesville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Nov. 9, 2014, at the Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville. She was born Sept. 24, 1918, in Mausville, a daughter of the late Ezra and Mable (Myers) McClintock. June 21, 1941, she married Marvin “Ted” Houseknecht, who died Oct. 21, 1976.

Martha was a member of Kedron United Methodist Church where she had been active teaching Sunday School, served as church treasurer, superintendent of the church and in the ladies/women’s aid society. She graduated from Hughesville High School, Class of 1936. She was a member of the Hughesville Garden Club and loved baking bread, cooking, spending time in her flower and vegetable garden and following her great-grandson’s sports activities.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Judy L. (Galen) Houseknecht, of Hughesville; granddaughter, Crystal (Paul) Falk, of Hughesville; great-grandson, Taylor Falk, of Hughesville; and two sisters, Marie Stackhouse, of Hughesville and Marguerite Narber, of Dover.

In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara A. Hileman.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday Nov. 14 in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, by her Pastor GayAnn Gearhart. The interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Hughesville. The family received friends in the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
