Rodney E. Wertz

Rodney E. Wertz, 74, of Hughesville, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at his home.

Born July 24, 1940, in Montgomery, he was a son of Fern Entz Wertz and the late Charles W. Wertz. He married the former Sharon A. Welborn, and together they celebrated 48 years of marriage on Jan. 21, 2014.

Rodney worked for Buck Lumber Company for 30 years and previously owned and operated the A&W beer distributor, Hughesville. He enjoyed driving his 1963 Corvair, woodworking, working with stained glass, but above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are two sons, Eric W. (Heidi) Wertz and R. David (Rachel) Wertz, both of Hughesville; a daughter, Elizabeth A. (Craig) Fitzwater, of Muncy Valley; three brothers, Charles W. (Jean) Wertz, of Muncy, Dale L.(Gloria) Wertz, of Montoursville and Ricky L. (Tress) Wertz, of Muncy; and six grandchildren, Caleb A. Wertz, Jaden N. Wertz, Sarah E. Wertz, Gavin M. Wertz, Cassius B. Wertz, and Harper Z. Wertz.

Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Nancy (Dave) Welborn McCartney.

A memorial service was held 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with James R. Taylor, Sun Home Health & Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
