Sylvia L. Fry
Sylvia L. Fry, 96, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at Quincy Village of Waynesboro.
She was a lifelong resident of the Hughesville area, until ill health required a necessary move to her daughter Sandra’s home in Greencastle.
Born July 18, 1918, in Hughesville, she was a daughter of the late Arthur L. and Emma M. Clark Shaner. Her husband of 63 years, George B. Fry, preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2001.
Sylvia was a dedicated member of the Hughesville Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary where she served numerous dinners over the years and worked the cake stand at the carnival for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hughesville, and a member of the former Leona Albeck Sunday School Class, where she was involved with many group projects.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan (Dick) Hall and Sandra (Kenny) Wetzel, both of Greencastle; two sons, Arthur (Mary) Fry, of Montoursville and Larry (Jean) Fry, of Ocean Pines, Md.; two sisters, Donna Miller and Jacqueline Woodside, both of Hughesville; a brother, Gerald “Sam” Shaner, of Hughesville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth “Mike” Shaner, Lyle “Cub” Shaner, Grant Shaner and Earl Shaner; two sisters, Eleanor “Big Sis” Fry and Zelda Barto; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Cinda J. Brucker officiating. Burial followed in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
