Ronald H. Walters

Ronald H. Walters, 71, of Hughesville, died Dec. 24, 2014, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 28, 1943, in Williamsport, a son of the late Howard M. and Kathleen I. (Buck) Walters. Aug. 28, 1965, he married his love Mary E. Saxe, who survives.

Ron was a member of the Pennsdale Trinity United Methodist Church. He graduated from Hughesville High School, Class of 1961 and served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in the Far East. In 1993, he retired from Sears, where he served as a sales manager for 25 years. He then went to work for Wilkes Pools as a store manager until 2006. He was an avid sports enthusiast, collected coins, loved reading the newspaper and enjoyed cars, especially his Cadillac. In his early years, he enjoyed attending car auctions with his father. Ron valued time spent with his family.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by a daughter, Cheryl I. (Paul) Stropko, of Sayre and a son, Scott H. (Kevin Geibel) Walters, of Cranberry Township. He is survived by four grandchildren, Lindsey E. (Michael) Ford (whom he helped to raise), Nicholson, Samantha J., Bruce R. and Dane M. Stropko, of Sayre. He is survived by a sister, Marion Kay (Dan) Moore, of Picture Rocks. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother, William Walters.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 in the Trinity United Methodist Church, 658 Village Road, Pennsdale, officiated by the Rev. Kevin St. Martin and the Rev. Bill Gibson. The interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends called Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, and from 10 a.m. till the time of service Monday in the church.
