Ward P. “Junior” Farrar Jr.

Ward P. “Junior” Farrar Jr., 86, of Picture Rocks, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at his home.

He was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Williamsport, a son of the late Ward P. Sr. and Dorothea I. (Wallis) Farrar. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pearl S. Ryder Farrar.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Junior is survived by a son, Jimaye K. Farrar, of Jacksonville, Fla.; five daughters, Daphne L. (Carl) Evans, of Muncy, Bonnie J. (Pat) McCracken, of Hughesville, Cathy A. (Kimber) Showers, of Hughesville, Lynn M. McGraw, of Hughesville and Joy E. (Tim Gehr), of Muncy; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Junior attended the Frantz School and served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1993, he retired from Anton-Waldman after many years as a carpenter. He had also worked part time at the former Gary’s Aquarium. He was a member of American Legion Post 35, Hughesville, a lifetime member of the Picture Rocks Volunteer Fire Co. and was known for his woodworking abilities.

Junior was preceded in death by a son, Steven C. Farrar; three brothers, Robert M. Farrar, Jimaye K. Farrar and Fordythe C. Wallis; and two sisters, Edith J. Woodside and Faye L. Newcomer.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, officiated by Pastor Richard Demarte. The interment was in Twin Hill Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by combined military organizations. The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
