Kathryn A. VanWhy
Kathryn A. VanWhy, 86, formerly of Montgomery, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, in the Susquehanna Health Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Unit at Muncy Valley Hospital. Born in Dewart, on Thursday, May 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Viola (Shaner) Phillips. Katie was the widow of Moses F. VanWhy who preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1996.
Katie was last employed by the former Ames Department Store at South Williamsport, and was previously employed by the former Hills Department Store and Montgomery Mills.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Montgomery. Katie enjoyed and was content being a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Mahala “Halley” VanWhy, ot Montgomery; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Nettie VanWhy, of Montgomery, Robert M. and Patty VanWhy, of Montgomery; five grandchildren, Halley Marie VanWhy, Shani Groover, Moses VanWhy, Amber VanWhy, Bobby VanWhy; nine great-grandchildren, Travis Groover; Ashley Groover, Jaden VanWhy, Carly VanWhy, Cash VanWhy, Cavin VanWhy, Cage VanWhy, Jazzelyn VanWhy and Bentley VanWhy.
In addition to her husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori VanWhy; her son, Clarence (Moe) VanWhy; two brothers, Marvin and Harold Phillips; and one sister, Ruth Faulkner.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb 14, at Betzer’s, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, with Rebecca Cuddeback, pastor of the Jersey Shore First United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Franklin Township.
