L. Marguerite ‘Peg’ Barto
L. Marguerite “Peg” Barto, 94, a former lifelong resident of Montgomery, currently residing in Leland, N.C., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Home, in Wilmington, N.C., surrounded by her loving family.
Peg was born in Montgomery on March 18, 1920, a daughter of the late Lillian (Dunn) and Lloyd Starr.
She was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran “Brick Church” in Montgomery.
An unconditional caring and loving woman, Peg was once named Woman of the Year in Lycoming County for volunteering over 4500 hours at the Muncy Valley Hospital as well as being a caregiver to many people through letters, phone calls and visits. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who truly cared for and loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years on Nov. 10, 2009, Ralph “Pat” Barto, and by a brother, Glenn Starr.
Peg is survived by three sons, Robert Barto, and his wife Patti, of North Carolina; William Barto, and his wife Terry, of Tennessee and Phillip Barto, and his fiancee, Anne, of North Carolina.
A funeral service was held at John’s Lutheran “Brick Church,” Montgomery, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, with Pastor Viking Dietrich officiating. Relatives and Friends were invited to a viewing Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Peg was laid to rest alongside her husband, in St. John’s Cemetery, Montgomery, immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Brick Church, Montgomery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Albert Breznik, Jr., Funeral Director of the Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, Ringtown.
