Robert C. Shearer

Robert C. “Bob” Shearer, 80, of Hughesville, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at Geisinger Medical Center, with his family by his side.

Born Dec. 5, 1934, in Montoursville, he was a son of the late Claire L. and Hazel Dockey Shearer. He married Margaret F. “Peggy” Snell, and together they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 30, 2015.

Bob retired from the Lycoming County Prison in 1996 as a deputy warden. Prior to his retirement, he served as a deputy game warden and a hunter’s safety instructor for 11 years. Bob was also a great hunter and an avid outdoorsman, and was also one of the original members of the Allegheny Ridge Hunting Club. He became a Ham radio operator and helped start the Bald Eagle Repeater Association. Above all Bob enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially Tuesdays and Thursdays when his family would all eat breakfast together.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Susan M. Shearer, of Muncy and Robin C. (Rick) Shearer Pasco, of South Williamsport; two sons, David A. (Pam) Shearer, of Muncy and Richard W. (April) Shearer, of Hughesville; 12 grandchildren, Eric, Scott, Heather, Courtney, Alec, David, Joshua, Jason, Michael, Tony, Cody, Samantha; 21 great-grandchildren; and three dogs, Phoebe, Hanna and Bella.

Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy L. Fantaskey, and a brother, Ronald D. Shearer.

A memorial service was held 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Pastor Jane O’Borski and Kathy Burkhart, CLM, co-officiating. Friends called from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
