Lois E. McCarty
Lois E. McCarty, 86, of Hughesville, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at her home.
Born Feb. 25, 1928, in Muncy, she was a daughter of the late Abraham R. and Rena M. Green Whitmoyer. Her husband of 45 years, Gordon D. McCarty, preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1994.
Lois attended Newman School for eight years and graduated from Muncy High School, Class of 1946. She graduated from Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1949, as a registered nurse, and was employed at Muncy Valley and Williamsport Hospitals. Lois and her husband established the former Gordon D. McCarty Funeral Home, currently McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, in 1948, and remained actively involved in the funeral home until their retirement in 1982.
She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Bethany Women, and the Busy Bee Sunday School Class. Lois was a member of the former Hughesville Woman’s Club and the former Hughesville Business and Professional Women’s Club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, and crafts.
Surviving are a son, Richard K. and his wife Kuby McCarty, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a sister, G. Arlene Marquardt, of Muncy Valley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Carl Whitmoyer.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Jane L. O’Borski, her pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
