Stanley B. Kiess

Stanley B. Kiess, 79, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, in the ManorCare Health Services-North at Williamsport. Born in Muncy Creek Township, Lycoming County, on Saturday, Nov. 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Forrest and Carrie (Neff) Kiess. Stan was the widower of Anna L. (Hamilton) Kiess, who preceded him in death on May 20, 1989.

He honorably served with the U.S. Army and following his active duty Stan continued his service with the Army National Guard. He was employed by the former J.C. Decker at Montgomery, and had also been employed by the former Montgomery Mills.

Stan was an active life member of Bower-Decker American Legion Post 251 at Montgomery, where he had been active in the Honor Guard and was a member of the 40 et 8 at Williamsport.

Stan enjoyed and was very knowledgeable about all sports. He enjoyed helping his neighbors, especially with their errands.

He is survived by three children, Judy and Paul Schaeffer, Muncy, Dave “Geisel” and Denise Morehart, Watsontown, Mary and Steve Harding, Montgomery; two brothers, Harry Kiess, Williamsport, Paul Kiess, Williamsport. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter. Stan is also survived by three stepchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one stepson.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, with Pastor Tim Morehart, his step-grandson, officiating. Interment was in the Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends called from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans organizations.
