Ruthadel R. Houseknecht

Ruthadel R. Houseknecht, 101, a resident of Wolf Run Village, Hughesville passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 surrounded by loved ones.

She was born December 26, 1913 in Tioga, a daughter of Melvin and Edith (Jackson) Zinck.

Ruthadel was a member of Saint John’s Newberry United Methodist Church.

Ruthadel graduated from Williamsport High School in 1932. She attended Mansfield State Teachers College and taught at Grey Valley one room school house in Tioga County from 1934 until 1941. In the fall of 1942, Ruthadel started teaching at Hughesville.

She retired from the East Lycoming School District on June 7th, 1975. She was a member of PSERS. (Public School Employees’ Retirement System)

Ruthadel enjoyed singing in the church choir and spending time with friends and family at the family cabin at Highland Lake.

Ruthadel was predeceased by her husband, Miles R. Houseknecht who passed in 1981, her parents and a sister Susan Briggs.

She is survived by a sister Betty Sobola, who lived with her at Wolf Run Village, Hughesville; nieces, Nancy Van Deurson and Patty Witherspoon; four great nieces and one great nephew as well as a devoted cousin, Janet Kohler, Hughesville.

Ruthadel’s Life Celebration service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Wolf Run Village, 3750 Route 220 Highway, Hughesville with Pastor Jay E. Jones of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd. “A Life Celebration Home” 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.
